There is exciting news for foodies, as a new “sporting gastropub” and an “upmarket boulangerie and brasserie” are set to open in the city by the end of this year.
The Duck Hook and Hillhouse Brasserie will both open at Dubai Hills Golf Club, which is just 15 minutes from Downtown Dubai and City Walk. So expect some stunning scenery and vistas alongside some top-notch dining.
As well as looking across to the city, the restaurants will boast views across the lush 18-hole championship golf club at Dubai Hills Estate and promise “excellent service and attention to detail”.
The new outlets come as a result of the first formal collaboration of JRG Dubai – the team behind big restaurant names Pierchic, Pai Thai and Trattoria Toscana, as well as The Rivington Grill and The Ivy – and developers Emaar Properties and Meraas.
The Duck Hook is set to open mid-November and will be a typical “19th Hole” pub with “classic gastropub favourites reimagined”. And if you are not in the know, a duck hook is a golfing term, where a shot that curves to the left of your target.
Based upon country pursuits, one could expect some pub grub-meets-modern-European fare that will transport us to the Shires of England. There will also be a range of draught hops, and we predict this spot will be popular with those taking to the greens and non-golfers alike.
The “upmarket yet unpretentious” Hillhouse Brasserie is due to open in early December and looks set to be a chic, casual eatery, which promises a family-friendly daytime vibe. It will serve up coffees, light meals and afternoon tea in the day, while by night it is set to transform into a buzzing, decent-value, brasserie.

Both restaurants will source local, sustainable ingredients and offer filtered local water.
