UAE Golfers Travel To Ireland For Summer Camp

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) National Junior and Ladies Golf Programs will be training at two of Ireland’s finest golf clubs for their 2019 Summer Camp.

34 players, four coaches, and Emirates Golf Federation (EGF) delegates will spend the next 12 days at the Carton House and The K Club focusing on golf fundamentals and tournament preparation for upcoming international competitions.

“Every year we take this time to reward our Juniors and Ladies for their hard work and commitment to the UAE golf program. This year will be special.

“Training at Carton House and The K Club will be something that these young golfers remember for the rest of their lives. This will also give our coaches time to evaluate each player while making new goals for the upcoming season,” said Khalid Mubarak Al Shamsi, EGF National Team Manager and Secretary General.

Shamsi also added, “one thing that we are proud of this year is that we are taking 13 ladies with us. This shows the growth of our Ladies Program and the success that our new Ladies National Team Coach has had over the last six months”.

Staying true to the recently signed ‘Women in Golf Charter’ from the R&A the EGF and UAE golf is striving to increase the number of women and girls participating in the sport.

Ladies National Team coach April Varney said: “I want the girls to come away from the camp feeling more confident with their golf game while learning how to utilize their skills in order to produce lower and more competitive scores.

“We will be focusing on course performance, self-motivation, and tournament strategy in order for the girls to push themselves and achieve their goals.

“We will be spending a lot of time on the golf course preparing the more experienced players for upcoming events while giving the younger generation the knowledge of playing different courses”.

Over the next 12 days the players will be evaluated to make up the prospected Ladies Team, Boys 18 & Under Team, and Boys 15 & Under Team in preparation of the Asian Pacific Golf Confederation Junior Championship, the Arab Golf Championships, GCC Golf Championship, and the EGF Order of Merit Schedule.

For the past three years, most of the players have been training at their home golf club across the UAE and now are ready to start competitive golf.

A product National Junior Development Program that has been developing and identifying National talent. The EGF is excited to see these players continue their progress onto the UAE National Golf Teams.
